What Is SMS Secure?
"SMS Secure" is an additional security measure to assist in safe guarding your accounts from Internet Banking Fraud.
The process will initially be used for Third Party Payments, that is, payments to accounts at other financial institutions or Auswide accounts apart from your own. When SMS Secure Authentication is required, our Internet Banking system will automatically forward a SMS (including the transaction information and "random authentication code") to your nominated Mobile or SMS capable phone. The transaction will not be processed until the "authentication code" from the SMS is entered into the Internet Banking system by you. Obviously, you should check the transaction details are correct before entering the code.
SMS Authentication Required Screen
This is the screen that will appear if your payment triggers SMS Secure. This is an important security step to help protect you against internet fraud.

If the details of the payment in the SMS are correct, enter the Authentication Code from the SMS and press Submit to confirm your payment details and proceed with the payment. |

If the details of the payment in the SMS are incorrect, press Cancel. This will stop the payment altogether and return you to the 'Transfers & BPAY' screen |
How It Protects You
If you were to receive a SMS regarding a payment that you had not created, to an unknown BSB and Account Number, you should change your access code immediately and contact us on 1300 138 831 (Mon-Fri 7am-7pm, excluding Public Holidays), as it may mean that your Internet Banking Security has been breached.
The suspect payment could not be processed without you entering the Authentication Code from the SMS message, so no money could be transferred from your account to an unknown BSB and Account Number without your knowledge.
To register for SMS Secure please contact your local branch or send us a secure email and we will arrange to activate this service for you.
Trusted Payees
| Trusted Payees |
Are Third Party Payees which have been authenticated as "Trusted" using SMS Secure so that future payments to these payees will not require authorisation codes for each payment. |
Un-Trusted Payees |
Are Third Party Payees which have NOT yet been authenticated as "Trusted" using SMS Secure. You will be required to authenticate an "Un-Trusted" Payee using SMS Secure when the first payment is made. Once the SMS Secure Authentication Code is entered and the transaction is processed then that payee will become "Trusted" and will not require authorisation for future payments.
